Petroseas is looking for an experienced Lead Project Engineer – Offshore Cables to take technical ownership of challenging offshore cable installation, burial and repair projects.
In this role, you lead the engineering activities within multidisciplinary project teams and provide technical direction from project preparation and detailed engineering through mobilisation, offshore execution and project close-out.
Our projects involve the installation, burial, protection and repair of subsea power cables, including nearshore, inter-array and export cables for offshore energy infrastructure.
As Lead Project Engineer, you bring together engineering, operations, clients, subcontractors and offshore teams. You make sure technical solutions are practical, safe and executable offshore — while keeping a close eye on schedule, cost and project requirements.
You will work closely with Project Managers and our operational teams and act as a key technical point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.

Your role
You will take the technical lead within offshore cable projects and coordinate the engineering disciplines required to successfully prepare and execute the work.
Your responsibilities include:
- Leading Project Engineers and Discipline Engineers throughout the engineering and execution phases of offshore cable projects.
- Developing and reviewing engineering solutions for cable installation, burial, protection and repair operations.
- Taking ownership of engineering interfaces between Petroseas, clients, subcontractors, vessel teams, equipment suppliers and other project stakeholders.
- Planning and coordinating engineering activities, deliverables, technical documentation and drawings.
- Reviewing methodologies, procedures, calculations, technical specifications and project-specific engineering documentation.
- Translating engineering concepts into safe and practical offshore execution methods.
- Supporting the selection and configuration of cable installation, handling, burial, survey and subsea equipment.
- Coordinating specialist engineering activities performed internally or by external engineering partners.
- Supporting technical evaluations of equipment, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Identifying technical risks and opportunities at an early stage and developing appropriate mitigation measures.
- Understanding the commercial and schedule implications of engineering decisions, design changes and changing client requirements.
- Participating in client meetings, technical reviews, HAZIDs, readiness reviews and project meetings.
- Leading the engineering preparation for project mobilisations and demobilisations.
- Providing technical support to offshore teams during project execution and resolving engineering issues when required.
- Capturing lessons learned and contributing to the continuous improvement of Petroseas engineering methods, tools and procedures.
- Keeping up to date with developments in offshore cable installation, burial technologies, subsea equipment and execution methodologies.
- Supporting the Project Manager and, where appropriate, taking additional project-management responsibilities.
What you bring
We are looking for an engineer who combines strong technical knowledge with leadership, operational awareness and a practical offshore mindset.
You preferably have:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Marine Technology, Offshore Energy or a comparable technical discipline.
- Approximately 7+ years of relevant offshore project experience, preferably involving subsea power cables.
- Demonstrable experience with offshore cable installation, cable burial, cable protection and/or cable repair.
- Experience leading engineers and coordinating multidisciplinary technical activities.
- Strong knowledge of offshore project preparation, engineering and execution.
- Experience managing technical interfaces with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and offshore teams.
- The ability to understand the relationship between engineering decisions, offshore execution, project schedule and commercial performance.
- A structured approach to technical documentation and engineering deliverables.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- A practical, solution-oriented and hands-on mentality.
- A strong commitment to HSE, quality and safe offshore operations.
- Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
Experience in closely related disciplines such as subsea installation, offshore construction, SURF, marine operations or heavy offshore installation can also be relevant when combined with strong project engineering and leadership experience.
